With rain and blustery wind in the forecast, 10 anglers turned out for the first match of 2016. The heavy cloud kept its promise and rained for the duration of the match.

On form Stevenage angler Mike Clarke took the glory on the Canal from peg 2. Mike concentrated his efforts in the deep water just off the bottom of the far shelf for a high quality mix of fish including roach, mixed carp, skimmers and perch for a weight of 13lb 15oz all caught on a single red maggot presented on a pole rig.

Second place went to another Stevenage angler Clive Robinson. Clive opted to use double pinkie presented on a pole rig to the far shelf from peg 8. His weight of 8lb 2oz was made up of a mix of silvers and small carp.

Letchworth angler Rich Goodwin took third place from peg 10. Rich was one of the few that decided to use a feeder rod to the top of the far shelf and was rewarded with a common carp at 6lb 4oz and a total weight of 6lb 6oz. Chosen bait was double red on a 16 hook.
